It was just after ten pm on a Wednesday and although we were promised a dry day, it had not stopped raining! Ray and I were sitting discussing the recent tennis, waiting around for the next job to come in. Finally we got a phone call from a lovely woman on a business trip who had pulled into the Tesco petrol garage in Cotton End and put the wrong fuel in her diesel teal Seat lease car by mistake. The unfortunate thing was fairly affected by the sounds of it, crying "I still can't believe I have ruined the vehicle! I'm just so used to putting unleaded in my petrol car I totally did not remember I was running a diesel!" I just told her to calm down and not to fret, and also that these things do happen. She managed to move the car into a protected position and, seeing as it was just a short distance off from our van, we could get to the customer right away. The wrong fuel was extracted so she was able to go home to the motel she was staying in. Despite the fact we got thoroughly soaked, it was all worth the time seeing her drive off satisfied and not so anxious. Another job in Bedfordshire well done in my mind!

Waste Fuel Removal

Got a fuel reservoir sitting at the rear of your premises full of unwanted and old, unusable or degraded fuel? We can help you to dispose of it. We have been called out to numerous privately owned and commercial premises in Bedfordshire to take care of removing and disposing of fuel storages. We are covered by the Environment Agency to allow us to extract and dispose of waste fuel legally and safely.

Irrespective of whether the fuel storage is an underground reservoir, a portable bowser, or perhaps numerous containers in an outbuilding, as long as we can access it, we can certainly drain it.

AdBlue Contamination

Throughout Bedfordshire we are identifying progressively more occurrences of AdBlue contamination wherein a person has poured AdBlue straight into their diesel fuel tank. This is mostly due to people being unsure of the way to work with it (important: it's actually not a fuel additive), and partly due to the fact that the filler caps for diesel and AdBlue are normally right adjacent to each other on the vehicle.

Well, precisely what is the matter with putting AdBlue in a diesel car?

Because the product is mostly deionised water, it is actually as bad as pouring water in to your tank. Diesel and water really don't mix whatsoever and attempting to run a diesel car on water is not going to work. In addition, the urea is quite corrosive to fuel system pipes and seals and is prone to crystallisation, blocking injectors and fuel filters. In the case you put AdBlue into your fuel tank get it drained immediately. And absolutely be careful not to start up the vehicle - not even to relocate it to a parking area. In cases where you have started the car you may very likely need to have the whole fuel system flushed and fuel filters changed out.

Give us a call if you are affected by AdBlue contamination. We will help. We are Specialists in dealing with contaminated fuel and can correct different types of AdBlue liquid contamination.

Just had a good night of sleep! It was 7:00 on a gloomy Sunday and I was on the way to help an elder sweetheart after she had put petrol in her diesel beautiful Ford C-MAX Hybrid in Cotton End. I had been advised she had left the petrol station and broken down along a country lane on the way to pay a visit to her grandchildren. I got the location punched into the Satnav and was with her within an hour. I got to the stricken lady and drained the wrong fuel in the car car. Whilst I was working she explained, "I'm getting relatively forgetful in my old age and didn't remember about the vehicle taking diesel because I'd just purchased it a short while back right after my previous one, which I had for more than thirty years, finally died". I finished the drain and she gifted me a Murray mint and thanked me for my work. What a delightful Bedfordshire woman!

A young lady from Cotton End with her children in her diesel daughter's Ford Ranger had filled her car with £45 of petrol at the BP station. She contacted us crying and extremely upset as she had never filled up with the wrong fuel and didn't know what might happen to her vehicle because of it. We assured her that all would be okay and that she would be back up and running in no time at all. When we arrived she was visible upset but as our engineer got to work on the fuel drain she calmed down as she noticed that help was at hand and her car wasn't ruined. How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
